Potting Bench

When ordering containers to be potted, please have a good idea as to what amount of sunlight they will receive. Will they be in full sun, partial sun or shade throughout most of the day? This information will greatly assist us in choosing plants that will thrive in your containers.

Please be sure to empty your containers of old soil and plant material. In order for your new plants to thrive, new soil will need to be added to the containers. There is a service charge to discard old soil and plant material.

Orders are filled on a first come, first serve basis.

Please try to be as clear a possible regarding your plant preferences and color choices. We will substitute other plant varieties and colors if the plant you originally requested is not available at the time of planting. There will be an additional charge to redo any containers.

In order to avoid any confusion, we do ask that you approve and pay for your containers before we will deliver them. We will call you when your order is ready for delivery so that you can stop by to pay for and sign off on your order.

You will receive planted containers that will contain mature planting material. With the correct care they will last you through the entire growing season up to the first frost of autumn. Please be sure to refer to the “Container Care” hand- out to assist you in keeping your containers looking great all summer and fall.

How to Care for Your Containers

Watering:

Correct watering is essential to the success of your containers. Most annuals will need to be watered every day that is sunny and dry. On exceedingly hot days we recommend that you check your containers twice a day and rewater if necessary. Cut back on watering if the weather becomes cool and overcast or if there have been significant amounts of rainfall. Be sure to check the surface of the soil to see if it is dry to the touch. When watering, try to water only the soil and not the foliage to prevent diseases. Allow shade containers to dry slightly between waterings. As a general rule of thumb, plants prefer to be watered in the morning rather than in the heat of the day or in the evening.

Fertilizing:

Your containers have been prepared with a time-release fertilizer. However, in order to guarantee full and colorful blossoms we recommend using a liquid fertilizer every two to three weeks. Please ask one of our horticulture professionals as to the best kind of fertilizers to use. Be cautious, too much fertilizer will result in no flowers so be sure not to overfeed.

Cleaning:

In order for your containers to look their best, we recommend that you take a moment to cut back or “deadhead” the flowers as they begin to fade. Be sure to remove any yellowing leaves or sparse foliage. By doing so, your container plants will become bushier and will be more disease resistant. Certain annuals such as petunias will look their best if cut back half way through the growing season.

We hope that your containers will add beauty and enjoyment to your property. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further questions regarding the care of your specific containers.
